1966 Kapa Continental w/OHSC

For sale today is a 1966 Kapa Continental electric guitar from the original family.

Kapa was a Maryland-based company that imported parts from Hofner in Germany and assembled electric guitars in a variety of nitrocellulose finishes. This guitar features a Hofner neck with a 1.7" nut width and is 0.769" thick at the first fret. It's a slim neck which was common for Hofner instruments. The frets are original and vintage sized, they are about 0.025" tall and do not have any divots. The truss rod works nicely as well. The body is a two or three piece mahogany slab that is 1.2" thick and styled like some of the Kalamazoo electrics from Gibson. It has a four ply pickguard with two Hofner pickups (stamped with manufacturer and "Germany" on the bottom), individual pickup slide switches, and a Stratocaster-esque configuration of volume, tone, and tone. The pickups are jangly and bright and sound phenominal. The guitar is dated by the pots which are stamped 13766__ for a 1966 date of manufacture. The tremolo system is a nice copy of what Fender was doing during this era and works great, the guitar is pretty good at returning back to it's original tuning. There is some sticker residue on the headstock and the guitar has minor dings and dents as well as two noticeable dents on the back. It comes with the original red-lined chipboard case.
