National 1140 Gibson made 1949 - Sunburst
For sale today is a National 1140 from 1949 in Sunburst finish. This guitar features maple back and sides, and a solid spruce top. This is from the earlier years of these when National ordered their guitar bodies from Gibson. The neck is made from maple with a rosewood fingerboard. The original Kluson tuners have their National branded covers on the back of the headstock. It has what looks to be its original nut. The guitar came to us with a non original bridge that did not look or function well. We replaced that with a better suited ebony bridge. The National logo on the headstock looks great still. The neck angle is set just right thanks to a functional angle adjustment mechanism that replaces the typical dovetail joinery found on most arch tops.
There is a small crack repair on the top directly to the left of the trapeze tailpiece that has been repaired. It also has a small crack/indentation on the side near the strap button. Where the pickguard attached to the side, there was another tiny crack that has been stabilized. The first three frets are well worn, especially under the treble strings. That being said, they are still fretting well and without tone loss. The B & E treble strings give a little bit of buzz at the 12th fret, but not before it, or beyond it. The guitar will come shipped in its original black leather case and will be packed with utmost care. Please let us know if you have any questions on this fantastic arch top guitar and we will do our best to help. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
