Valco Triplex Tuning Changer
The ingenious lever allows switching between three different tunings on the same instrument! And it was invented in the 1940s!
The lever moves cams which push and pull each string up or down to alter its pitch and allow switching between tunings. They do require a little servicing to ensure everything moves smoothly and the final positions reflect the desired tunings but the final result cannot be outdone as Bobby Jr beautifully illustrates on his Oahu Triplex.
The original manual is quite difficult to find and there is a low resolution scan out on the internet but we purchased yet another Triplex, this time a National, and knew we had to snap photos of the manual that came with it. This original document shows how to use the Triplex tuning changer and the three tunings that are recommended to use with it. E7, C#m, and Amaj.
